What we set, why we set it, and how to switch it off
A cookie is a small text file placed on your device when you visit a website. Cookies are used by almost every publisher on the internet, but the number, purpose and lifespan of the cookies set vary enormously. Amazing Reviews sets as few cookies as we can while still delivering a fast, useful site. This page lists every cookie and similar technology we use, and gives you the tools to control them.
We use two categories only. Strictly-necessary cookies are required for the site to function, for example remembering that you have already dismissed the cookie banner or accepted our risk disclaimer. Analytics cookies help us understand which articles readers find useful. We do not use advertising cookies, we do not use social-media tracking pixels, and we do not sell any cookie-derived data to third parties.
Under UK GDPR and the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR), we ask for your consent before setting any non-essential cookie. You can withdraw consent at any time using the cookie banner or by clearing your browser storage. Withdrawing consent will not delete our record of legitimate contact-form enquiries or newsletter subscriptions; those are managed under the separate Privacy Policy.

1. What a cookie actually is
A cookie is a small text file, typically no larger than a few hundred bytes, placed on your device by a website. Modern browsers also allow websites to use local storage, session storage and IndexedDB, which are similar technologies but not called cookies. Everything in this policy applies equally to those non-cookie storage mechanisms.
2. First-party vs third-party
First-party cookies are set directly by amazingreviews.co.uk and can only be read by our servers. Third-party cookies are set by other domains loaded on our pages, most commonly by our analytics provider. We keep third-party cookies to an absolute minimum. Where we embed any third-party widget (such as a live TradingView chart on the market analysis desk), that provider may set its own cookies according to its own privacy policy.
3. Strictly-necessary cookies
These cookies are required for the site to work. They cannot be switched off through our banner because doing so would break basic functionality. All strictly-necessary cookies are first-party, expire when your session ends or within thirty days, and contain no personal data.
- ar_consent — records your response to the cookie banner so we do not ask on every page. Expiry 12 months.
- ar_risk — records that you have dismissed the risk disclaimer. Expiry 6 months.
- ar_session — anonymous session identifier used for security throttling. Expiry: end of browser session.
4. Analytics cookies
These cookies help us understand which articles are read most, which broker pages generate the most engagement, and where readers arrive on the site from. Analytics is aggregate and privacy-first: we do not use it to identify individual readers and we do not share the data with brokers or advertisers.
- _pa — assigns a randomised identifier used for aggregate pageview counting. Expiry 12 months.
- _pa_ref — records the referring URL for the current session. Expiry: end of browser session.
5. What we do not use
Amazing Reviews does not use behavioural advertising cookies, retargeting pixels from advertising networks, cross-site social-media trackers, or any technology designed to fingerprint a user across websites. If you visit us in Private Browsing or Incognito mode you should see no persistent identifiers of any kind after you close the window.
6. Controlling cookies from your browser
Every modern browser allows you to view, block or delete cookies. In Chrome, Firefox, Edge and Safari the controls live under Settings → Privacy. You can block third-party cookies globally, delete all cookies from amazingreviews.co.uk, or set the browser to delete cookies automatically when it closes. The Information Commissioner's Office maintains up-to-date guidance for each browser at ico.org.uk.
7. Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control
Where your browser sends a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal, we treat that as a valid withdrawal of consent for analytics cookies and do not set them. Strictly-necessary cookies remain, because they are exempt from consent requirements under PECR.
8. Changes to this policy
If we introduce a new cookie or change an existing provider, this page will be updated and the "Last updated" date at the top revised. Material changes are highlighted at the top of the page for thirty days.
